Spring Break 2019

Spring Break 2019

Hello everyone!

Spring term begins this week, and as I will primarily be writing about my experiences on campus throughout the https://cgs.rutgers.edu/ rest of the academic year, I thought I would take some time this week to talk about my spring break.

This is somewhat off topic, but one of the things I love about Carleton (this goes for other schools with the quarter or trimester system as well) is that since breaks are in between terms, breaks are much more relaxing, as there is no school work to worry about (contrast this with my friend on the semester system, who has a midterm on his first day back from break). So, I went back to sunny California stress free, excited to see friends and family. Although the weather is finally starting to warm up here in Minnesota, it was very nice to be back in the Bay Area, with sunny days in the 60’s and 70’s during my one and a half week stay. I tried to utilize my time back in the warm weather as efficiently as possible, and subsequently spent many days with friends outdoors, hiking, playing sports, and going to the pool.

While I did many fantastic things over break, nothing was quite as exciting as getting an internship! I had been nervous over the last few weeks of winter term, as I knew a long awaited interview was waiting in the wings upon my return to California. Fortunately, the interview went well, and I will be interning this summer at Qolsys, a home security startup in the Bay Area. I will be doing work in both the accounting and software departments, and I cannot be more excited to start! It will be my first time working in an office based environment and I’m sure I will be able to learn many new things and gain valuable experience. Although I didn’t find this particular internship through Carleton, Carleton has a wonderful support system for anyone looking for an internship, and the Tunnel as well as the Career Center are fantastic resources for students.

Spring break was as great as it could have possibly been, but I’m grateful to be back on campus. I am especially excited about my classes this term, and I’m sure I’ll have lots to say about them next week!

Alvin is a west coast Papernow testimonials kid at heart (coming from San Jose, California), but is excited to start many adventures here in Minnesota. He plays for the soccer team here at Carleton and loves exercise. If he’s not on the soccer field, in the gym, or out on a bike ride during his free time, he can be found in one of the lounges playing Exploding Kittens, or in the music building playing piano. He is a potential economics major with an interest in computer science and mathematics. Meet the other bloggers!
